Hear them Roar 🦁

Dan Campbell's Lions are becoming the team to beat!

Detroit has (arguably) cemented themselves as the #1 team in the NFL. They have showed championship-like 🏆 focus and execution so far this year, and last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is the latest example of the Lion’s dominance. Right from the opening quarter, they dismantled the Jags and laid a 52-6 beatdown. Dan Campbell is proving to be the chicken noodle soup 🍲 cure to the losing ailment that has bugged the Lions for decades. Given the Steelers’ loss to the Browns last night, it appears that the Bills, Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs round out the top 5 teams in the NFL, but none of those teams seem to be as consistent as the Lions this year (so far at least!).

Meanwhile, in the college ranks, the CFP Committee seems to be infatuated 🥰 with the Big Ten, giving that conference 4️⃣ out of the top 5️⃣ teams in the latest rankings. With numerous big games ahead of us in the coming weeks, including this weekend’s showdown between Ohio State and Indiana, it is inevitable that some (or perhaps most?) of those teams slated to be in the top 12 now will actually end up left out once the playoffs start. It is precisely this dynamic that has some commentators, including Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin, to claim that it may be best to not play in a conference championship (given the risk of losing that game) 😅

At the other end of the spectrum, for those teams with losing records, we are starting to see some movement from owners, schools, and other decision-makers, hoping to begin setting a new foundation for success next year. Look no further than the New York J-E-T-S JETS - and the firing of HC Saleh and, more recently, GM Joe Douglas - to see an organization making moves for the future! Now, the main question in NY may be: what will happen to Aaron Rodgers given this disappointing year? 🤔 We might need to go to a darkness retreat in order to figure that one out….😅😅

TRIVIA
 🏃‍➡️ Chasing Justice 🏃

Justice Ellison has led the Indiana Hoosier’s rushing attack this year, and Indiana will need a big game from him (and others) in order to pull off the upset against Ohio State this weekend! So far this season, Justice has almost 700 yards on the ground and is averaging 5.7 yards a carry.

Before this season, Justice was a running back at Wake Forest and entered the transfer portal at the end of last season, ultimately landing at Indiana and helping them to their best season ever! Justice Ellison isn’t the only running back to transfer from Wake and have considerable success at a Big Ten school. In fact, one of his predecessors (who transferred to a Big Ten school) won the Doak Walker and Walter Camp awards in 2021! Can you remember the name of this running back? Bonus points if you can name the school and the name of the NFL team he is currently on!

TRIVIA ANSWER

Kenneth Walker III transferred from Wake Forest to Michigan State and earned the Doak Walker and Walter Camp awards in 2021! He was ultimately drafted by the Seattle Seahawks (and has been a core member of my fantasy teams ever since 😜)!
